For the conservation work to take place, the clock first needed to be dismantled. The movement was then taken to the horological conservation workshop, while the case was taken to the furniture conservation studio.  

The case was carefully stripped down and the surface was restored and treated with a traditional oil-based finish.

The brass mounts with iron and steel components were restored in the clock-makers' workshop before being refitted to the case by the furniture conservator.
