APSLEY BENET CHERRY-GARRARD (1886-1959)

The South Polar Times. Vol. 3, April to October 1911.

1914

RCIN 1102272

The South Polar Times was revived on Scott’s last expedition, probably through the influence of Wilson, who provided most of the illustrations. As before, the newspaper - which contained articles by all hands - offered a combination of scholarly discussion and knockabout humour. Apsley Cherry-Garrard, assistant zoologist on Terra Nova, edited the text. He presented the first part to Scott on Midwinter’s Day (22 June 1911), the Antarctic Christmas. The collected issues were published in a single volume by Smith, Elder and Co. three years later.
