CANALETTO (VENICE 1697-VENICE 1768)

A view of a town on a river bank

c.1740

RCIN 807795

The print shows a view across the Brenta with houses and watermills on the opposite bank. The bare tree interrupting the centre of the composition recalls the earlier landscapes of Domenico Campagnola (c.1500-1564) and Titian (c.1490–1576).
