ATTRIBUTED TO THE SCHOOL OF DIEGO VELÁZQUEZ (1599-1660)

Portrait of a Lady at the court of Philip IV of Spain (1605-1665)

c.1630-40

RCIN 404857

This picture is finely painted in a manner similar to that of Velzáquez and his circle at this date. A handkerchief is just visible in the sitter’s right hand, indicating that the painting has been cut down, possibly from a full length. This painting was acquired by Queen Victoria.
