Ceremonial trowel
1824RCIN 50426
On 12 August 1824, George IV marked his 62nd birthday by laying the foundation stone of what became the George IV Gate at Windsor Castle. He used this silver ceremonial trowel, engraved with a presentation inscription and with his GR monogram on the handle. It would be more than four years before the new apartments were ready for the king to take up residence.
