CHARLES WILD (1781-1835)

The Grand Staircase, Carlton House.

RCIN 922173

These eight watercolours were made in preparation for a lavishly illustrated book on the royal residences by William Henry Pyne. This view shows the Grand Staircase of Carlton House, which rose through the heart of the building. To the bottom right stands an elaborate pedestal clock purchased by the Prince Regent in 1816.

Acquired by George IV
