JAMES MOORE (C.1670-1726)

Pier table

1723-24

RCIN 596

The table was probably designed to stand between windows below a mirror whilst flanked on each side by candle-stands. The front and top of the table is decorated with a cipher ‘GR’ (Georgius Rex) for the King, encircled by the Garter. A section of the strapwork decoration is prominently incised ‘MOORE’, an unusual practice for a furniture-maker at this date. Supplied to George I, probably for the Drawing Room, Kensington Palace, 1723 – 4 Cat. 102
