Between 1746 and 1749 the two royal first cousins exchanged portraits, accompanied by many expressions of esteem and affection. This portrait of Frederick the Great was delivered to Frederick, Prince of Wales in 1748. The magnificent frame he made for it has recently emerged on the market. Presented by the sitter in 1748 to Frederick, Prince of Wales Cat. 240
