This family group was taken during Adams's first royal sitting after the outbreak of the Second World War. Princess Elizabeth was nearly fourteen and Princess Margaret nine. Both girls were educated at home; Princess Elizabeth, being heir presumptive, also received more specialised tuition in such subjects as constitutional history and law.
