AFTER HANS HOLBEIN THE YOUNGER (1497/8-1543)

Henry VIII (1491-1547)

RCIN 404438

This portrait of Henry VIII is a very early copy or derivation of Holbein’s original. The original was painted in 1537 on the wall of the Privy Chamber at Whitehall Palace in London, which was destroyed by fire in 1698. The portrait may have been painted during Henry VIII’s lifetime and is still close in technique to Holbein.
