The earliest photographic image in the Royal Collection, this portrait of Prince Albert was taken at a studio in Brighton. The photographer was probably William Constable, working under a daguerreotype license from Richard Beard. 'Beard Patentee' is stamped on the mount. Today the image is now faded beyond recognition. It is kept in a brown leather case with 'PA Feb 1842' stamped in gilt on the case lid.
