    The North Terrace of Windsor Castle

    The North Terrace was first laid out during the reign of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), to allow the monarch to enjoy the fresh air while surveying the surrounding countryside. By the eighteenth century these privileges were enjoyed by tourists too, and the North Terrace was a popular destination for leisurely walks, with celebrated views across the Thames Valley.
