A watercolour showing the dancer Pauline Leroux as the character of Fenella in the ballet of Massaniello. She is shown full-length, facing forward, standing in second position and dressed in seventeenth-century Italian-inspired ballet costume. Inscribed below: Mad. Pauline Le Roux [sic] as Finella as she appeared in Massaniello at Covent Garden.

The ballet of Massaniello was based on the story of the really life Italian fisherman of the same name who who became leader of the revolt against the rulers of Naples in 1647. Princess Victoria saw the ballet on 13 December 1832 at the Covent Garden Theatre. In her journal entry of that day she describes how "Mad. Pauline danced and acted very prettily". -
