Venice: The Bacino from the Punta di Sant'Antonio c. 1740
Pen and ink, with grey wash | 15.7 x 34.8 cm (sheet of paper) | RCIN 907456
-
A drawing of a view across the Bacino in Venice. In the centre of the drawing a large ship is moored, and many other boats are visible on the lagoon.
San Giorgio Maggiore is seen through the rigging of the ship moored in the foreground. To the left is the Giudecca, with the domes of the Zitelle and the Redentore, and the Euganean hills on the horizon at far left. To the right of the Campanile, Palazzo Ducale and the domes of San Marco and the dome of San Zaccaria and the tower of San Giorgio dei Greci. The brown ink has bled slightly into the grey wash, giving a blurred appearance to the many boats in the Bacino.
