After Domenichino’s death, the entire contents of his studio of over 1,700 drawings found their way into the Royal Collection. As a result there are more drawings by Domenichino in the collection than by any other artist. This drawing of a female figure with three infants is Domenichino’s preparatory study for a fresco in the church of Sant’Andrea della Valle in Rome. The figure represents Charity, one of the three theological virtues (along with Faith and Hope).
