Engraving with etching of Charles III, Duke of Bourbon. Half length with plumed cap, beard, collar, and robes edged in fur. The Duke is pictured seated at a table, with left hand resting in front of him and with right hand placed on top of a helmet to the left. Above is inscribed 1527, the date of the sitter's death in Rome, with the motto 'Omnis Salvs In Ferro Est' engraved in reverse in the lower right corner of the portrait. With Latin inscription below. Cut down.
Previously, it was thought that this engraving by Lucas Vorsterman was after a portrait of the Duke of Bourbon by Titian, however the painting is now attributed to Giampietro Silvio. -
