Henry Pierce Bone's enamel is after the painting on panel at Althorp, Northamptonshire, formerly said to show the young Lady Jane Grey and stated to be by Lucas de Heere (1534 – 84), but now recognised as a work by the Master of the Female Half-Lengths (Netherlandish, active second quarter of the sixteenth century) showing a Lady as the Magdalen.
Prince Albert purchased this enamel in 1844 and it was subsequently added to the group of English Sovereigns and Queens from Edward III to Queen Victoria (see 422356).
