Edmund Bristow was specialised in subject paintings, sporting scenes and animals. He lived at Eton and Windsor, where he was a court painter for the Duke of Clarence, later William IV. Bristow exhibited in London at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Suffolk Street gallery from 1809 to 1838.This painting was bought at the same time as a picture of a farrier’s shop (407585) by the same artist and placed in the Nursery at Osborne in the Isle of Wight.
