This is a copy of high quality after Hudson's portrait at Shugborough Hall of c. 1747. Admiral George Anson was distinguished naval commander who later became first Lord of the Admiralty (1751-6 and 1757-62). He was made 1st Baron Anson in 1747 and is shown here wearing his peer's robes and a powdered wig.
