The painting depicts Queen Victoria processing through Trafalgar Square from Buckingham Palace for the Golden Jubilee service in Westminster Abbey, celebrating 50 years of her reign. The Crown Princess of Germany and the Princess of Wales rode with her in her carriage. Her sons, grandsons and other male relatives accompanied her on horseback, along with a Field Officers' Escort of 1st Life Guards and Indian Cavalry.
The painting was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1892.
