This is a study for the head of Prince Albert Victor (1864-92) in a painting of Queen Victoria and three of her grandchildren by the same artist (RCIN 406763). He was the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales (later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra). He died of pneumonia in 1892.
Inscribed on the back as painted when the sitter was eight.Provenance
Painted for Queen Victoria in 1872; recorded at Windsor Castle in 1878
