The Prince of Wales's racing cutter, 'Britannia', beat 'Ailsa' in the race for Her Majesty's Cup in the Royal Yacht Club Regatta at Cowes on 5 August 1895. On that evening de Martino dined with the Prince of Wales. The artist's name then appears in the Visitors Book for 'Britannia' on the 7, 8, and 9 August whilst at Cowes and the 13, 14 and 16 August at Ryde.
A preparatory sketch is in the Royal Collection (RCIN 451217).Provenance
