Princess Charlotte (1860-1919) was Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, the daughter of the Queen’s eldest daughter Victoria, Crown Princess of Prussia. Queen Victoria was delighted with the portrait and noted in her Journal: ‘A most lovely picture arrived of Vicky’s little Charlotte, by Lauchert. It is full length, & really charming, – so bright & light, quite in the style of a Winterhalter portrait’. Signed and dated: R Lauchert [initials in monogram] 1863. Inscribed on the back with the names of the artist and sitter, her age (three), and the date, 1863.
