Carl Ross (1816-58) studied at the Academy in Copenhagen from 1832 to 1836, and in Greece. He travelled to Munich, Rome and Paris, before returning to Rome. His painting of the Temple of Phigalia in Arcadia, is in the Kunsthalle in Hamburg.
A landscape bathed in evening light, with a path leading down to an extensive plain, and a bay beyond; in the distance, a range of mountains rises above the water; on the path, in the foreground, a man proffers a dead bird to a seated figure.Provenance
