A View of Windsor Castle c.1715
Oil on canvas | 91.7 x 122.3 cm (support, canvas/panel/stretcher external) | RCIN 403031
-
This view of Windsor Castle is taken from the south, roughly at the site of the current bridge taking Southlea Road over the Thames within what is now the Home Park. Though this is not the site of the old Datchet Ferry this may be what is intended in the foreground here (assuming in such a picturesque view topography may be treated with some license). There are also the Huntsmen and falconers on the lane to in the foreground. The view may be compared with one taken from a similar position a few decades earlier (RCIN 406508).
