A contemporary sketch-like copy on a small scale of the portrait now in the Uffizi which was painted by Van Dyck in Brussels in 1634. The sitter was the daughter of Francis II, Duke of Lorraine, and married Gaston, Duke of Orléans in 1632.
The painting appears in Pyne's illustrated 'Royal Residences', hanging in The Queen's Closet at Kensington Palace (RCIN 922154).Provenance
Acquired by George III in 1762 as part of the collection of Joseph Smith, British Consul in Venice (Dutch and Flemish List, no 15); recorded in the Queen's Dressing Room at Kensington Palace in 1818 (no 210)
