Venus seated, full-length, with her legs to the left and her left elbow raised above her head. She is nude but for a transparent white veil in her right hand and over her right shoulder, a bracelet and a pearl necklace. A horned satyr, with flowers in his hair, emerges from the shadows to the left.
The state of the picture is very poor but its essential character is preserved. It is consist with other works by Frangipane, including the Bacchus and a Luteplayer (Querini Stampalia Gallery, Venice) and the Way to Calvary (Doria Gallery, Rome).Provenance
First identifiable in the Royal Collection in 1870
