Princess Victoria was the eldest of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s nine children and was about four years old when this portrait was painted. The Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria’s mother, was so pleased with the portrait that she gave the artist a silver snuff box. Queen Victoria described it as ‘a charming likeness of Vicky’.
