One of a pair of copies painted by William Corden for Queen Victoria in 1847 after Lawrence full-lengths (this one after RCIN 405142; its pair after RCIN 405138). They were used to decorate a ‘Bourbon Room’ in Buckingham Palace with a series of portraits of Bourbon monarchs for a visit of the King and Queen of the Belgians. The Duke is shown in a military uniform with a cloak over his left shoulder; he wears the star of the Order of the St Esprit on his breast, with three other identifiable badges.
