Marco Ricci was active chiefly as a landscape painter, and was at his finest working on a small scale. This mountainous landscape includes a waterfall gushing down a rocky course at the left and large buildings amid trees in the middle distance at the right. The scene is animated by several figures including a man on horseback with his servant crouched next to him in the centre foreground. The rider points to the waterfall. On the other side of the waterfall two more men are perched on a rocky ledge.
