Photograph of Louise, Duchess of Manchester: half-length portrait, her face turned to left, wearing deep cut dress and multi-stranded pearl necklace; oval image.
She was Mistress of the Robes to Queen Victoria from 1858-9, but fell out of favour in Queen Victoria's court because of her relationships within the 'Marlborough House set'. She was a life-long friend of King Edward VII. Adele was a photographic studio in Vienna, established in 1862 by Adele Perlmutter-Heilperin, possibly the only woman to be Court Photographer to the Imperial Court in the Austro-Hungarian empire, before the first World War. -
