Photograph of Queen Elizabeth II standing in the White Drawing Room, Buckingham Palace. The Queen wears the Grand Duchess Vladimir tiara and faces three-quarters right.
Beaton first photographed The Queen in 1942, ten years before her accession. This was one of the final images that he took of her, and it was released to mark Her Majesty’s forty-third birthday in 1969. The photograph was taken in the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. The Queen wears a turquoise gown by Hardy Amies, which had been designed for the State Visit to Germany in 1965, and the Vladimir Tiara. When recalling this particular photographic session with The Queen, Beaton noted in his diary that ‘Everywhere were sparkling possibilities.’ -
