While her parents were on their tour of Australia and New Zealand, Princess Elizabeth was cared for by her grandparents and her nurse, Clara Knight. She stayed first with her maternal grandparents, the Strathmores in Hertfordshire. In February she went to London to stay with King George V and Queen Mary. At the end of March, Queen Mary took her granddaughter to The Children’s Studio. The resulting photographs include this image of Princess Elizabeth sitting on her grandmother’s lap.
