The Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace

Blind or partially-sighted visitors at the Royal Mews

Access and surfaces

All areas of the Royal Mews have level access. As the Royal Mews is an historic building, the floors are uneven and cobbled in places so please take care.

Audio tours and multimedia guides

A descriptive audio tour, produced in partnership with Vocaleyes, is free of charge and can be collected on the day of the visit.

Non-descriptive multimedia guides are available, in the following languages:

  • English
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Russian
  • Spanish

Kit is wiped down before use and cleaned on return. You are welcome to use your own standard wired headphones if you prefer.

You can find a number of audio descriptive pieces on the carriages on our website. If you wish to book a personal descriptive tour please email [email protected]

Assistance animals

Assistance animals are welcome. We recommend that if possible animals wear a jacket or lead slip to identify them as working.

Staff reserve the right to ask visitors to remove their animal if it is deemed not to be behaving appropriately. Arrangements will then be made for the visitor to return without their animal. Please contact [email protected] for more information.

Toilets

Accessible toilets are available once visitors have passed through the security process, approximately halfway through the visitor route.

Shops

Visitors exit through the Royal Mews shop where the flooring is level with tiles and carpet.

The income from your ticket contributes directly to The Royal Collection Trust, a registered charity. The aims of The Royal Collection Trust are the care and conservation of the Royal Collection, and the promotion of access and enjoyment through exhibitions, publications, loans and educational activities.
