The drawings Canaletto made around Venice often make use of opposing viewpoints. These two drawings show the views along the Molo, the quayside in front of the Doge’s palace. The columns that flank the entrance to the Piazzetta frame the edge of each sheet. The drawings are executed in a fluid, spontaneous style with very little underdrawing.
