'The little-ingenious Garrick and the ingenious little Hogarth': Art and the Theatre 1714–1760©

transcript_garrick_and_hogarth.pdf

The reigns of the first two Georges saw the remarkable careers of the artist William Hogarth and the actor David Garrick. The traditionally close relationship between the theatre and the visual arts expanded through their collaboration and the status of both painters and players rose to new heights. Join Robin Simon, Honorary Professor of English at UCL and Editor of The British Art Journal, and the actor William Chubb as they investigate the friendship between two extraordinary men.

This lecture was recorded on Wednesday, 23 April 2014 at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace to accompany the exhibition The First Georgians: Art and Monarchy 1714-1760
