CONSERVATION CASE STUDY

Restoring the Buckingham Palace Turret Clock

Turret clock conservation

In 2008 the mechanical movement of the Buckingham Palace turret clock was temporarily suspended to protect it from air-born dust created by stone restoration work underway in the surrounding area.

At this time, examination of the clock revealed that it required conservation attention, both to the mechanical movement, which was showing signs of oxidation, and to the wooden case, to restore and refinish it in a manner appropriate to its original design.

Read on to learn more about the conservation process, but first, watch this short time-lapse film, which shows the reconstruction of the newly conserved clock.
