RCIN 11283

Arms and armour were traditionally exchanged between dignitaries at court and many of the swords, daggers and shields presented to the Prince display regional styles of ornamentation, or the decorative styles of other countries. This sword was presented by the Amir of Khairpur, a region in Sindh in modern-day Pakistan. The rulers of Khairpur employed Iranian craftsmen in their courtly workshops; the pastel colours and patterning used on the enamelled decoration of this sword are similar to that on enamelled objects from Iran.
