George III, Joseph Farington and the Royal Academy

The Royal Academy aimed to revive British arts and crafts

GEORGE III, KING OF THE UNITED KINGDOM (1738-1820)

The Establishment of the Royal Academy of Arts.

c.1815

RCIN 1009837

This is a rough copy of the document signed by George III in 1768 founding the Royal Academy of Arts. It was copied by Joseph Farington, probably around 1818, when he was beginning to compile material for an extensive history of the Royal Academy's first 50 years. Unfortunately, the work was never finished due to Farington's death three years later.
