Mary Stuart, Princess of Orange, 1643, William II, Prince of Orange, 1643

In 1641 Frederick Henry's 14-year-old son, later William II, was married to Charles I's daughter Mary, then aged just nine. This pair of prints depicts the newly married couple. They took up residence in The Hague,where they lived until the death of William II in 1650aged 24. A week after his death, Mary gave birth to a son, William III, Prince of Orange, who would later take the throne of England and Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
