Windsor Castle: The Waterloo Chamber, 5 June 1844

dated 1844

RCIN 919785

The Waterloo Chamber was created at Windsor Castle as a memorial to the Battle of Waterloo and to display Sir Thomas Lawrence’s portraits of those involved in the battle and peace negotiations. Begun under George IV, the space was completed during the reign of his brother William IV. This watercolour shows the chamber during the Emperor Nicholas I of Russia’s State Visit in 1844.
