Anna Children drew the 'Waterloo Elm' on a visit to the battlefield with her father. The elm had been Wellington’s command post during the battle. After Waterloo, it was stripped by souvenir hunters, who left it bare of branches and leaves. When the tree was felled soon afterwards, the wood was acquired by Anna’s father, who commissioned a chair celebrating the battle. This chair was presented to George IV in 1821.
