This map, produced for public consumption almost immediately after the battle, summarises the positions of the opposing forces. South is to the top; the French lines are in blue, ranged around La Belle Alliance, one of the headquarters for Napoleon's army. The British troops are in red, the Belgian and Dutch in yellow, the Brunswickers in dark grey and the Prussians (at the left) in green. The village of Waterloo is at the bottom and the key sites of Hougoumont and La Haye Sainte at the centre.
