STUDIO OF SIR THOMAS LAWRENCE (1769-1830)

George IV (1762-1830)

1821

RCIN 404933

The Prince Regent considered himself Napoleon's nemesis. The Waterloo Commission placed him at the centre of the victory celebrations and forever associated him with the defeat of Napoleon. Lawrence portrays the Regent in Garter robes beside the Table of the Great Commanders (RCIN 2634). The table was commissioned by Napoleon and was George IV's prize possession.
