Triptych: Crucifixion and other Scenes

This small triptych by Duccio, one of the most important early Sienese painters, was the first acknowledged work by the master to enter Britain. The scenes linking Christ, the Virgin Mary and St Francis suggest it was painted for a Franciscan patron. Prince Albert framed it in this delicately carved and painted frame and hung it in his Dressing and Writing Room at Osborne.
