PRINCE ALBERT, PRINCE CONSORT, CONSORT OF VICTORIA, QUEEN OF THE UNITED KINGDOM (1819-61)

Centrepiece

hallmarks 1842/3

RCIN 1570

Prince Albert designed this centrepiece to reflect what he considered the best of Renaissance taste. The dogs are the Prince’s own beloved greyhound Eos, and three of Queen Victoria’s favourites. The centrepiece was much admired at an exhibition of British Manufactures in 1849 and was shown again at the Great Exhibition.

Commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1842
