Turban ornament

1870-75

RCIN 11286

This turban ornament probably dates from the mid-nineteenth century and was probably made in Udaipur. It is in a traditional Mughal style. The stones are of impressive size and many are faceted. In Indian jewellery this was usually only done to larger stones. Originally turban jewellery was the prerogative of the emperor, his close family or members of his entourage.
