The embossed scenes are from the life of Julius Caesar: 1. the Battle of Dyrrachium; 2. the defilement of Caesar’s robe; 3. the Battle of Pharsalus; 4. the head and ring of Pompey are brought to Caesar. The inscription refers to the evils of ambition. A group of similar armours, based on designs by Etienne Delaune, were made or decorated by Libaerts for Henri II of France and Eric XIV of Sweden.
