Weddell seal on the beach at Cape Evans

Nov 1911Mar 1912

RCIN 2580017

This is a peaceful and contemplative scene, showing a Weddell seal basking in the sunlight. These seals are not usually found alone, as they live in groups on the ice. They are, however, easily approached by humans as they are naturally gentle and unthreatened by the presence of man.
