The look out platform at Ocean Camp

Shackleton wished to create a feeling of comfort and security while the party was camped on the ice. As well as a proper galley for the cook, they built a lookout platform as a focal point for the camp, and hoisted King George V’s Union Jack to keep up the men’s spirits.
